MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers announced three annual awards focusing on advocacy, remanufacturing, and diversity, equity and inclusion that were presented at the 2024 AAPEX event in Las Vegas.
Philip Austin, manager of Training & Development at Niterra North America and Rebecca Conway, vice president of U.S./Canada Aftermarket Marketing at Clarios were each awarded the 2024 MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leader Award on November 6, 2024 at the AAPEX show in Las Vegas.
The award recognizes outstanding leaders who have significantly contributed to advancing DEI within the automotive aftermarket.
Austin was recognized for his steadfast commitment to fostering inclusive growth and educational opportunities in the industry. Known for building comprehensive training programs that cater to a variety of educational levels, Austin has positively impacted diverse groups across the automotive field. He has a proven record that shows a dedication to mentoring other professionals in the industry of diverse backgrounds. His work with technical schools and repair shop professionals, particularly in urban areas, has empowered future technicians and leaders from all backgrounds.
“Philip’s leadership and passion for education and inclusion have made him a true force in the industry,” said Ben Brucato, vice president of Membership & Engagement at MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers. “He has set a high standard by building programs that support diverse voices and foster collaboration across all sectors.”

Conway was honoured for her influential role in supporting and mentoring women within the aftermarket and battery industries.
Conway’s leadership at Clarios and her involvement with organizations such as MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, Women in Auto Care, and Women in the Global Battery Industry have amplified her impact. Notably, in 2024, Conway advocated for the launch of a women’s group at Clarios, providing a platform for support and advancement.
“Rebecca’s dedication to creating spaces where women can thrive and lead is truly inspiring,” said Cheryl Dry, senior director of Program Management & Operations at MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers. “Her leadership is a beacon for all who aim to elevate DEI efforts in the industry.”

Both Austin and Conway’s efforts underscore the importance of continuous advocacy and actionable leadership in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion across the industry.
Also honoured during the award presentation was Eric Luftig of Dorman Products, who received the MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers Advocacy Champion Award, and Selwyn Joffe of Motor Car Parts of America, who was awarded the Michael Cardone Leadership Award for outstanding leadership in remanufacturing.
